Lucarne (2023)
Lucarne is a series of sculptural pieces hand-built in stoneware clay, then twice-fired at high temperatures. The collection includes lamps, vases and candleholders.
Lucarne explores windows as a concept, described in the simplest terms as openings in a solid structure, allowing light, air and views to flow in and out. In this series, windows are a deliberate part of each piece, marking the contrast between ceramics as a material, dense and opaque, and the lightness of negative space.
The openings serve as a design component, acting as integral character elements, and extending to the viewer the perspective of what lies on the other side.
‘Lucarne’ is French for ‘a little window, nestled in the roof of a building’.
